Bounty Hunter: Generosity
[mk_dropcaps style="fancy-style"]W[/mk_dropcaps]hen it comes to true wealth there is a marked difference between the affluent and the generous. The former group simply has a lot of resource, the other has much and is openhanded with it their money has a purpose beyond just themselves. There is a purpose and function to the abundance for those who are generous. When I look in my world at those who are authentically generous they look for ways to give what they have. There is intention behind what they do with all their money. The thing is the generous are not always the most wealthy, but the most willing. I would go so far as to say that they are bounty hunters of opportunities for generosity. Instead of seeking the opportunity to get they seek the opportunity to bless. As we focus on finance, specifically the emotional connection we have to it, generosity is a key to master money. It is in generosity, as you give that you position (or reposition) yourself as steward over your money. It keeps it so that you have your stuff instead of your stuff having you. When you see the resource God has blessed you with as something you steward you will treat it differently. You will begin to have eyes to see God’s why behind what he has given you. I do not know about you but I can easily be seduced by money. When you love money you step into shaky ground. Scripture describes it like this:
[mk_blockquote style="line-style" font_family="none" text_size="16" align="center"]For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.- 1 Timothy 6:10[/mk_blockquote]
Generosity is the great antidote to the love of money. Your heart will not be restrictive rather expansive as you become attached to what you sow into instead of the money itself. It is hard for money to hold you when it flows freely.
One important side note to those of you who tend to lean on rigidity and religion: generosity is best expressed led by the Holy Spirit. It is not to be done out of obligation, but a genuine love and obedience for the Lord. We are to give cheerfully. As Paul writes:
[mk_blockquote style="line-style" font_family="none" text_size="16" align="center"]So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.- 2 Corinthians 9:7[/mk_blockquote]
To be plain true generosity is done:
- From a cheerful heart.
- Out of genuine love and obedience to the Lord
Much like our faith is a muscle and strengthens with use, our generosity functions much the same. We can see the opportunities God has assigned for us to be generous to those He has put in our world when we lean into His promptings and respond. I love how God is so faithful to bring increase when we are obedient. Wherever we give Him more room to move the more he multiplies our blessing. It is promised just in the verse prior that:
[mk_blockquote style="line-style" font_family="none" text_size="16" align="center"]But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.- 2 Corinthians 9:6[/mk_blockquote]
God brings increase to us when our character is in alignment with Him. This is His will so much so that we are inoculated from having our blessings become our bindings. We are positioned in a place of victory with Him instead of working toward it. Seek to be a bounty hunter of opportunities for generosity. Lean into the Holy Spirit and watch not just your financial world but all areas of your life begin to abound. Happy Hunting!
