Money Map

[mk_dropcaps style="fancy-style"]I[/mk_dropcaps]n his book 10 Distinctions between Millionaires and the Middle Class , Keith Cameron Smith declares that one distinction between Millionaires and the Middle Class is Milllionares are futuristic.  Millionaires plan for the future of their money not just a day, week or month out, but years. What this shows me is that what sets those that are most successful in producing are good with delayed gratification and the  importance of action today for the benefit of the long term.  They not only know their purpose, but they put together a road map to get there.  They begin with the end in mind and work back from that to determine what actions are required of them today. God himself is future minded. One of the most popular verses in scripture Jeremiah 29:11 is a perfect example of that:

[mk_blockquote style="line-style" font_family="none" text_size="16" align="center"]"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."[/mk_blockquote]

Considering God lives outside of time, since he made it after all, this is especially important to note.  The fact that He speaks to us in a way that is directed at what we will be and where we are going, shows me that we too should be like minded. Where we spend our finances currently is a great gauge to determine where we are going.  If we are spending more than we make our future is headed toward financial bondage.  If we generously give out of what surplus we have we know God will continue to bless us.  We cannot continue to speak one way and act another and expect the blessing God has for us to still come.  God by His very nature can not move in a way that is contrary to His word.

A healthy road map for money does not just consider the future.  There is an objective of freedom attached to that mindset.  In scripture we find the Lord has commanded us explicitly “You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.” Deuteronomy 28:12.  If we are obedient to God then the future plan of our money should not be to just be free from debt but to have enough resource to give and do so plentifully so we can lend to others.  God even goes further to describe how we should lend in Genesis 22:25

[mk_blockquote style="line-style" font_family="none" text_size="16" align="center"]If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest.[/mk_blockquote]

To operate this way  does not happen automatically.  It takes enough financial stability and health that even if a loan was never repaid we would be no worse for the wear.  That shows me that planning and strategy is required to get us from where we are at today (with the majority of Americans in financial debt) to financial freedom. We have a road map for our money so we can advance our lives from our current state to one that is a healthy and bright light for a hurting world around us.  We cannot expect to be an influencer of the world if we ourselves are so bound and restricted by an unhealthy financial world we have little freedom of choice ourselves.  That is why God is so adamant we never borrow from others.  It inoculates the strength of our power to choose by limiting our choices.

So what does the road map look like?  Well this is where there is no cut and dry answer.   All I can tell you is you need to have one. This is unique to you, because you have a unique purpose and gift.  Your life is one of a kind. You have a purpose that ONLY you can accomplish.  There are a few keys along the way that must be addressed and are universal:

1) Do not spend more than you make. - Have debt?  Check out the Debt Buster system that Advocare provides

2) Tithe.- The importance of this was addressed in What the tithe?!

3)Save.- After you give your "first" fruits to the Lord you must put some into the "storehouse." This is both for emergencies and the long term.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21) What is of God is lasting. This does not mean we just sit back and do nothing, we must bring our labor to partner with God's blessing.  We are His ambassadors here on earth.  A road map is simply the general guidefor us to operate in obedience with the word and will of God.   God cannot grace or bless what is not consecrated to Him.  He is a God of His word and cannot lie. When we operate in His truth, His promise of blessing will be fulfilled.
