Receiving Correction

[mk_dropcaps style="fancy-style"]T[/mk_dropcaps]oday we are turning the tables from being the one bringing correction (read more in Positive Confrontation) to being the one who is receiving correction.  I love the bluntness of God’s word.  In Proverbs 12:1 it says, [mk_blockquote style="line-style" font_family="none" text_size="16" align="center"]Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.[/mk_blockquote]

Time to quit being stupid. If you like me have hated correction this is for us all to upgrade our faith and our method of operation.  Ironically enough this post is one gentle correction so it is an opportunity to apply this truth. To keep this positive since we know it is stupid to hate correction, let’s move on to the key positive focus of this verse: if you love instruction you love knowledge.

It starts with being able to take correction in because that is making knowledge that is out there in the world personal.  We cannot just hold on to some great ideas without making them a part of our behaviors and actions.

There is a revelation that happens only when we take instruction with a willing and open heart.  You then take that wisdom and apply it.  Showing that you value knowledge and wisdom enough to have it adjust your very character.  Why is this so important?  Because it helps us to grow and to improve. This does not mean you have to become a doormat and accept any old instruction you receive, but you should consider the source.  Sometimes we get correction and instruction because of the insecurity of the deliverer.  It is not anchored in the truth and power of the word of God.  How do you distinguish one from the other?  Look to the fruit.  Success leaves clues.  Look to the lives of the source of the instruction.  If they are humble and easily corrected people themselves with success in multiple areas of life and planted in the house of God that is a sound place to open up to instruction from.

We really do not have to belabor this point together.  The key is simple.  When you receive instruction, check the fruit, and then you can buy it as your own consuming it and becoming healthier for it.  That shows you are not stupid, but in fact someone who loves knowledge.  Now that is wisdom!
