Thankful 5- Nutrition Products

This month I’m going to share with you my personal top 5’s that I’m thankful for in the various areas of health.  Hopefully some of my recommendations will be helpful to you and you will find some of your own new favorites. I’d love to hear what things you love in these areas as well, so be sure to comment.

To start off, I’m going to start with my top 5 Nutrition Product favorites:

1. Probiotic Restore Ultra- Advocare

I love a good probiotic because it does so many amazing things for your body. Probiotics are great for digestion, elimination(keeping you regular, and helping your body rid of toxins), boosts immune system, improves absorption of nutrients in your digestion, and can help with how your body metabolizes fat.  Compared to other probiotics this one is great because it is shelf stable, and provides a high quality mix of strains of probiotics. Since taking this product (which I started about 16 years ago), I rarely get sick and when I do my recovery time is very quick. This is a must if you want to have solid core/foundation nutrition.

2. Multi Collagen Protein- Ancient Nutrition

This is a newer product for me.  I started taking this about 6-7 months ago.  As I get older, old injuries I had from my competitive swimming days would creep up more and more as I workout.  I don’t plan on becoming less active, so wanted to do something to help improve my joint health. Add to that the fact that with getting older I want to be sure I’m doing whatever I can to prevent the signs of aging… specifically those dreaded wrinkles.  One of the biggest benefits of collagen is that it helps improve the health of your skin, hair and nails. Come on, I know you like the sound of that! While what’s in this product sounds kind of gross it actually is unflavored. I love how easy it is to blend into smoothies or really any beverage. Since I’ve been taking this I have noticed the aching I’d get in my right knee after workouts has significantly diminished.  I only feel it when I’ve been inactive too long (which happens with any joint). As far as my skin, hair and nails things seem to be growing much faster and stronger and my complexion has been consistently clear (which was an issue for me in the past). The reason why it is so important to supplement collagen is that the sources are less common in our diet. Collagen can be found in the skin, ligaments, bones of a chicken. Yes you can get the collagen from bone broth, but who wants that at every meal (especially breakfast). Thank goodness for a great product like this to make it easier and more desirable to consume.

3. Catalyst- Advocare

This product is a high quality BCAA supplement.  BCAA’s are the building blocks of muscle. Great for those of you who workout consistently and want to help recovery, and feed your lean muscle this product will be your best friend.   I’ve taken Catalyst the majority of 16 years during my competitive swim training days, and now as I’m simply building a lifestyle of fitness. I love how it helps feed my muscles so I can more easily sustain  muscle definition, recover and indirectly get my body to burn fat more efficiently (a benefit of having more BCAA’s in your diet) as your body will tap into fat more efficiently for fuel.

4. Bone Broth Protein- Ancient Nutrition

I was skeptical about how this one would taste, but because of how I enjoyed the Multi- Collagen protein I figured it was worth a shot.  What I love about this is how fine the powder is, you only need one scoop, and they have a wide array of flavors. You can mix them into food if you have a savory flavor, blend them in a smoothie (I go for the vanilla) and there are a bunch of other recipes Dr. Axe has. Just go to his website to find them.  I love the fact that this boosts the amount of collagen I get in my diet which can actually help your digestion as well. Give this one a try if you want to branch away from whey protein due to lactose sensitivity.

5. Raw Protein Vanilla- Garden of Life

Besides bone broth protein, you’ll find I rotate that with a great plant protein. I like to mix up my sources of proteins so I can get a variety of amino acids in my diet and am not stuck to just one over a long period of time. This one from Garden of life is my favorite both for quality and price. This one is best blended in a smoothie as it can be a bit chalky on its own with just almond milk. On it’s own its quite “earthy” even for me and my crunchy roots. Even with that though love pea protein because it digests so easy and is very high in protein as well. Give this a try especially if you have problems with dairy products (like whey). Additionally, this protein is informed choice certified (meaning it has no contaminates or things that would test you positive as a competitive athlete). This is important if you’re about avoiding the common impurities or toxins that make it into many supplements these days.

You’ll notice I’ve included the link to each of these products from where I get them.  Please don’t feel obligated to buy them through the links. I simply share what I personally love, and there are some discount benefits from going through those links as I want to make sure you get things at a good price.  Feel free to comment below if you have further questions about these products. I’m not an expert, but I do believe in them enough to take them myself, have my husband take them and want to share them with those I love… like you!
